Shipping Wraps Vs. Shipping Boots for Horses

A shipping wrap is traditionally used to protect your horse’s legs during transportation and is created using a set of oversized no bow wraps or pillow wraps and a standing bandage. The shipping wrap requires more time to put on and take off than the shipping boots. Shipping wraps and shipping boots provide nearly equal protection, however, some may argue the shipping wraps provide more support while the shipping boots provide more impact protection and coverage.

Professional Horse Transport

A good pair of shipping boots for your horses is just the beginning. For instance,  for long-haul trips such as across the country, you may consider hiring a professional hauler or for a long-haul to a show, you may use your trainer.  Be sure your trainer is insured and has not allowed that insurance to lapse. A professional hauler should be licensed (have a US DOT number) AND be sure to check their motor carrier safety and performance data through the FMCSA. You can punch in the DOT number or the business name on the FMCSA website. It will give you all kinds of information about the business. You can also use their DOT number to reference their insurance information through the FMCSA’s “licensing and insurance” website.
