What is the best XC Boot?

We carry many different brands of cross country boots for horses – all of them are good, otherwise, we wouldn’t have them. Fit is one of the biggest factors to finding the best cross country boot. Click on the tab above to find the measurements of the Kentucky eventing boots. The next factor for finding the best cross country boot is your preference on strike plates. Some people don’t like them, some people like them – the Kentucky eventing boots have strike plates on the front & hind boots. It’s made of a strong material that is not going to shatter.

If you don’t like the idea of a strike plate, try out the Ecogold XC boots – they come in three different sizes, too. If you’re looking for a flexible plate, try the new Boyd Martin XC boots. The final element to finding the perfect xc boot is the color. These are brown and only come in brown right now. PEI xc boots come in black or white and have strike plates.

  1. James Ferrier

These boots offer great protection and are easy to maintain as they are machine washable, even that nasty eventing grease that is nearly impossible to remove comes off fairly easily with some soapy water and elbow grease. I’ve used these boots on a range of horses in both One Day Events, long format Three Day Events and spent hours Cross Country schooling without any trouble whatsoever, no rubbing even without the tendon grip product. If any horse does rub with these boots, I feel they are just as, if not more likely to rub with other brands given that the lining in the Kentucky Eventing boots is pretty soft in comparison to their competitors. I was hesitant at the high set hind boots, however they don’t seem to restrict movement at all when galloping or jumping and certainly provide an extra bit of protection if the horse leaves a hind leg. Unlike other brands, the front boots protect the fetlock area to a greater degree, as they wrap under slightly without restricting movement. In addition to this, the velcro attachments on the boots are extremely sticky, and hardly require taping at all. The only fault I can find with this product is the initial cost, however in saying that if the boots offer greater protection for my horse’s legs without restricting movement, overheating or rubbing whilst maintaining their structural integrity for several seasons, I feel that they are well worth the investment. Carl from Four Star Brand was very helpful and professional throughout the transaction, even when shipping the boots to Australia and have kept in touch to see how the boots were going for me and my horses. I would definitely recommend this company to people looking for quality eventing gear at very reasonable prices.
