Snaffle Bits

Snaffle bits are non leverage, direct pressure bits that are used for beginner riders and ponies through the upper levels. They are considered a fairly mild bit because they provide no leverage, one ounce of pressure from the rein aid equals one ounce of pressure on the horses mouth. The breakdown of a snaffle bit is simple as they contain only two categories of parts: the cheeks and the mouth piece. The cheeks can be as simple as rings, Ds or you can opt for the more modern pinch reducing eggbutt. The mouth pieces range from simple joints to lozenges. The materials used in the construction of snaffle bit include rubber, smooth metal, nylon and plastics, some treated with flavoring to enhance acceptance. We subscribe to the Pony Club way so bits with rough, sharp or twisted wire mouthpieces are not stocked.
