Bit Burr

Bit burr technology has been out for a long time. These training aids come in many forms and many names. We carry two variations of the ole bit pricker: The rubber and the leather brush pad. Regardless of the material, the use is the same. The Burr Bit (another name) is used to correct a drift or a hard lean against one side or the other. There are, of course, many ways to fix these things that don’t involve a training aid like this one. Only you and your trainer can determine if a bit bur is right for your horse.

  • Training aid to correct drifting, leaning
  • Rubber or Leather / leather brush pad
  • Sold individually because typically used individually
  • Also called prickers

Leather Bit Burr (Leather Brush Pad)

Our leather bit bur is a leather disk with a slice in it. The slice is to slide the pricker onto either side of the bit with ease. Embedded into the leather disk are several batches of stiff brush-like pokers. They feel like a stiff grooming brush. The outside of the leather disk is sewn together, keeping the brushes in place. The leather itself is a basic brown color. You can darken it up over time using saddle oil.

Rubber Bit Burr

The rubber bit burr is more similar to a bit guard. The hard rubber disk slices across one side to allow easy install on most bits. The rubber comes with small, rubber spikes. These are not soft spikes, they’re pretty hard but do move – they’re rubber, not hard plastic.

An Aide with Many Names

A burr bit is the combination of both a bit (of any variation) and a bit burr (of any type). We frequently have people asking us for a burr bit. Our bits are sold separately from our prickers. Which brings up another name: Pricker. It’s understandable why it’s called this, these are kinda prickery.
