Why add jump fillers?
More recently, course design has moved away from generic painted wood towards something more durable and lightweight such as powder-coated aluminum or polyethylene products. These materials require less repainting and are lighter, therefore, allowing even the most petite-built trainer to move around the course more easily.  In the show arena, as a result, the jumps and the jump fillers are able to maintain color and structure which makes courses more lively. Horses view these fillers as living creatures and therefore even the most experienced horse may look at the jump.
