Full Cheek Design

Full cheek bits like this one are used across many English riding disciplines, including 3-day eventing. When properly equipped with full cheek bit keepers, the bit provides mild leverage by applying pressure to the horses poll. This leverage comes from the rider applying pressure to the rein which is transferred to the bit itself as well as the keepers. The keepers pull on the cheek pieces, sending pressure up the bridle to the crownpiece. Pressure on the crownpiece applies pressure on the poll.

Using a full cheek bit to apply pressure to the horse’s poll can gently encourage the horse into the proper head carriage.

Eggbutt Snaffle Design

The flared ends of this bit’s mouthpiece along with the joining of the rings flush against swivel joints provides a design that is less likely to pinch a horse’s lips. The eggbutt snaffle design also offers moderate lateral control because the cheek pieces come fixed in relation to the mouthpiece.

Ergonomic Curved Design for Comfort

For some horses a curved mouthpiece will fit better over the horse’s tongue, allowing more room for the tongue to move freely. The curved mouthpiece can also prevent the bit from pressing into the top of the horse’s mouth. There is also the chance that the curved bit will apply more pressure over the bars of the mouth.
