Amerigo Vega Monoflap Cross Country Saddle

Amerigo Vega Monoflap Cross Country Saddle is the perfect saddle for any level eventer. The Swiss designer Peter Menet collected tons of data from his years of saddle fit experience before designing the Amerigo Vega monoflap. The data and experience allowed him to design a line of saddles that fit a wide variety of horses and riders well enough to make you think you spent thousands more for a custom fit saddle. Unlike custom fit saddles, your Amerigo Vega will fit a wide range of horses so they’re great for trainers or owners with young horses who will be changing over time.

Polyamide Tree with Steel Head Iron

Controlled flexibility without the torque

All Amerigo Vega saddles are built on an injection molded tree made of polyamide-imides: high-performance polymers known for their incredible strength and relatively low weight. Paired with a steelhead, the tree of the Amerigo Vega Monoflap Cross Country Saddle provides controlled flexibility while eliminating torque. Synthetic saddle trees should not be narrowed or spread more than 1 cm.

Wool Flocked Independent Swiss Panels

Greater freedom of movement

The panels of Amerigo Vega saddles are wool flocked, allowing for minor adjustments to how the panels fit to the horses back. Independent Swiss panels are non-gusseted with a wool liner. The panels of a saddle are on the underside, the “tubes” of flocking that sit on the horses back. An independent panel is not sewn directly to the sweat flap of the saddle. This more advanced design allows the horse greater freedom of movement by providing more consistent contact over the horses back.

Improved Rider Position

Effortless shoulder, hip, heel alignment

Improved rider position carried over from the original Amerigo line of saddles. Amerigo saddles are designed to position the rider’s weight forward on the horse’s back, over the horse’s center of balance. The outcome of this design relieves the horse of weight on his last rib, a key metric in saddle fit and design. With pressure relieved, the horse is free to move naturally – increasing comfort and therefore performance. The rider’s position is also enhanced, getting him off his pockets and into a more balanced and secure position that promotes an independent seat. The monoflap design reduces bulk under the leg, allowing the rider a close contact feel for a more independent leg.

Manufacturing, Leather, and Care

The Amerigo Vega Monoflap Cross Country Saddle is made of calfskin. The manufacturing is conducted by Selleria Equipe in Italy. Due to the environmentally friendly vegetable tanned process, Amerigo leather cannot be cleaned using products that contain alcohol. To maintain the warranty, use only Amerigo Leather Cleaning products.

Before and After Oil

Amerigo leather is high quality but like any leather, it changes with oil and wear. Here are some pictures so choosing which color you want is a little easier. YOUR results may vary – be sure to only use Amerigo oil.

Newmarket

Newmarket color Amerigo leather comes out of the factory looking a little orange.

When you receive your new saddle, you might want to darken it up a bit to give it the more classic newmarket look. We suggest one solid, even application of oil followed by an overnight bake under the included saddle cover. This will give the leather time to absorb the oil.

Repeating this process once more will give you something that looks like this:

Oakbark

Oakbark comes from the factory looking a little red.

One application of oil followed by an evening under the included saddle cover will produce a beautiful, rich newmarket color.

Brown

Brown saddles are pretty reliably… brown. If you have before and after pictures of your brown Amerigo vega, shoot them over to us so we can share with others.
