Product Description

2 Ring Elevator Bit

2 Ring Elevator Bit by Shires Equestrian provides half-halt without half-halting your wallet. This two ring elevator bit is much less expensive than German models. Elevator bits supply leverage that is often needed by three day eventers. Gag bits for horses typically come in two models: the two ring gag and the three ring gag. This model is called a 2 ring elevator bit because there are two places to attach your reins. You can put them on the main ring (making it a gag snaffle bit), or on the bottom ring, which will give you the leverage that defines this type of gag bit. The 2 ring gag bit is not nearly as severe and does not provide as much leverage as the 3 ring model, which is typically used only on very strong horses. This model is equipped with a copper lozenge.

  • A typical 2 ring elevator bit you see on cross country or in stadium
    • The cheeks on this bit are not dressage legal
  • Stainless steel with copper lozenge
  • 2 ring gag, not a 3 ring gag – semantics!
  • Also known as a Dutch gag bit

2 Ring with Copper Lozenge Gag

This particular gag bit is not a “true” gag bit (which actually lifts the horse’s head), but rather a Dutch gag that creates the opposite effect by use of leverage. These gag bits work on the lips and poll simultaneously and this Shires 2 ring elevator bit provides you with two different options to increase or decrease its strength. When the reins are attached to the lower ring, more leverage will be applied at the horse’s poll. This type of bit can increase lightness, flexion, and control when used correctly. These bits are especially popular with jumpers and eventers. However, gag bits can be very severe if used improperly so consult your trainer if you’re not sure if this bit is right for you.

Some bits might be on backorder status. This means we don’t have them at our store and they will need to be ordered from the manufacturing company. This happens if the bit is super popular and sold out, OR it’s not very popular so we don’t keep it stocked.

Either way…

IF ON BACKORDER, please allow 2 weeks for delivery for single bit. If you order multiple bits, we will have the mfg ship directly to you. We will keep you informed, either way.
