Horse Jump Cups

Horse Jump Cups built of high quality plastic or metal. Breakaway jump cups feature a safety feature that releases the cup from the standard when hit. All horse jump cups come in two mounting types: pinned jump cups or pinless jump cups. Pinless jump cups require that your standards have a keyhole track installed. The pinless jump cups have tabs that fit into the keyholes of the keyhole track. The other type of cup is the traditional pinned cups that include a pin to hold the jump cup to the standard. The only requirement for the pinned cups is that your standards have holes drilled into them (typical of all standards).

Metal Jump Cups

Metal jump cups come in three types: jump cups with pins, pinless jump cups, and safety/breakaway jump cups. Both variations come as keyhole jump cups or the classic pinned type. Metal jump cups tend to last longer over time but will need some maintenance over the years. To preserve their structural integrity, be sure to sand them down and apply some no-rust paint to them every couple years – especially if you’re in a coastal or otherwise wet environment. Having a barn to store your jumps and jump cups for the winter is ideal.

There are two depths that the metal jump cups come in – standard and flat. Flat jump cups allow the rail to fall easier when even slightly knocked by the horse.

PVC Jump Cups (Plastic Jump Cups)

PVC jump cups come in two variations: pinless jump cups (keyhole jump cups) or jump cups with pins. Plastic cups are totally maintenance free. They don’t come in the breakaway jump cup version that the metal ones come in. PVC jump cups are reversible. One set of cups can double as deep or flat top cups. Some show organizers use reversible plastic jump cups so their course designers can simply flip the cup if he wants a flat cup or deep cup.

Metal Breakaway Jump Cup

Available only in metal, the breakaway jump cup features a mechanism that releases the cup from the standard. It’s able to be re-assembled and used again. These cups come in pinless or standard pinned versions as well as shallow or deep cup depth. Grand Prix level show jump rings often use these cups.
